You are a Feminist If…

We are in the run up to the presidential inauguration and this country is more divided than ever. If you do not understand what I mean, take a look at these three posts (read some of the comments, too). People are venting frustrations about the lies, deception and misogyny perpetrated during this election cycle. Funny stuff, but it does not bode well for the next four years.

Ah well, we will persist.

Here’s a link to a great article and action alert for anyone who has a mother, sister, girlfriend, wife, daughter and/or female friend they care about (yes, that means about 99% of you out there). If this is you, you, my friend, are probably a feminist, because I am assuming you want to see these loved ones enjoy the same opportunities for health, happiness and success as your beloved father, brother, boyfriend, husband, son and/or male friends enjoy. That’s all it is, folks. That’s what feminism is. It’s not about screaming, throwing weird food items, adopting radical code names, or talking incessantly about hormonal fluctuations–it’s about making sure our female loved ones are fairly treated. Females are 51% of the world’s population–percentage in your location may vary.

Maybe I need to back up a little, here. If you have been out of the PUMA loop, you may not know what all the fuss about Obama’s misogynistic ways are about. Boy, are you in for some fun reads! Please go visit The Reclusive Leftist (link on blogroll at right). She is a wonderful writer–logical, intelligent, refreshing and kind. She has a series called “If you vote for Obama, this is what you’re voting for” (written before the election). There are fourteen ‘reminders’ in the series. I recommend Reminder #13 and Reminder #14. (Bear in mind there is some colorful language in these reminders, but please note which campaign stood behind the original use of this language.) These two articles may be all you need to get the picture. Aw, heck, here’s a link to the entire list.

If you are starting to get a little curious about PUMAs, please take a few minutes to read this excellent article. It’s about the person we feel has always been a strong voice and a true champion of the rights of us 51%. We deserve full access to every available opportunity for health, happiness and success simply because we are human beings, but also remember when we have these things we are so much better able to share, love, and team up with the other 49% (many of whom we love dearly) on their health, happiness and success, too.

Without the full contribution of this 51% we as the human race can never be whole.  If this statement makes sense to you, congratulations:  you are a feminist!
